Tagua Nut (also known as Vegetable Ivory) is carved into a lovely Nativity of six figures - Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus & 3 Kings.
Each figure is about 2" in height - they vary due to each being a different tagua nut. You can see the outer 'skin' of a tagua nut on the manger.
Each tagua nut is harvested by hand and will go thru 3 hardening processes in order for it to be carved. Using tagua for a variety of products helps to preserve the tropical rainforest where they grow - helping to prevent the danger of being cut down for low quality farmland and cattle pastures. The tagua pieces provide a sustainable income and help local communities become stable.
Purchasing tagua pieces is helping to preserve the Rainforest!
